Artha Global hosted a brown bag with Steve Haley, Director of Market Development and Partnerships at Mojaloop Foundation, on Thursday, November 24, 2022, from 4:00 PM-5.30 PM IST. This was an in person, on-the-record event hosted at the Artha Global office in Khar West, Mumbai.

The conversation covered building an ecosystem for digital public goods adoption, potential uses for an Indian CBDC, growth of instant payment systems around the world and last mile issues with financial inclusion initiatives, among other topics on payments systems in India and Africa, competition and financial regulations.
About the speaker:
Steven Haley has been leading diverse mission-driven teams for more than 17 years in eight different countries between work in the military, mathematics, humanitarian assistance, and economic development. He is currently Director of Market Development and Partnerships at Mojaloop Foundation. The foundation’s mission is to “increase financial inclusion by empowering organisations creating interoperable payments systems to enable digital financial services for all”.
Steve was also an advisor to MAGNiTT, and previously worked with Eureeca, where he focused on providing transparent access to private capital markets through crowd investing.
He has worked in Italy, Austria, Iraq, Lebanon, Yemen, Libya and Egypt, leading teams as large as 350 people. In 2011, Steve founded MC Egypt as a social investment company, leading the development of an early stage fund of funds to increase access to capital. Steve holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Applied Mathematics from West Point, and a master’s in Theoretical Mathematics from the University of Padova.
