Who We Are

Artha Global is a globally-networked policy organisation that partners with governments, multilateral agencies, philanthropies and the private sector on the systemic challenges to shared prosperity and opportunity. We move beyond symptoms, to focus on root causes.

Our north star is prosperity — artha in Sanskrit — achieved through the kind of sustained economic growth that lifted millions out of poverty across Asia and Central/Eastern Europe. But artha is not just material wealth; it also encompasses the legal, societal, environmental, and institutional conditions essential for individuals and communities to flourish.

Areas of Work

We focus on the critical transitions underway in developing countries, as they urbanise, digitise, and formalise their economies, create jobs and meaningful employment for tens of millions and strive to reduce long-term emissions. These transformations will create tremendous opportunities but also present complex, multidimensional policy challenges and socio-economic dislocations. We provide new paradigms and interdisciplinary solutions that are deeply rooted in local context and informed by a nuanced understanding of the political economy of execution.

Our four Centres work on building healthier, more productive cities, on ensuring that technology can be harnessed to achieve better societal and economic outcomes, on strengthening data systems to improve decision making and on delivering sustained and inclusive economic growth. But policy challenges are never static — we leverage our global network of experts to help our partners respond to unprecedented crises like the Covid-19 pandemic.
