Artha Global hosted an internal brown bag with Hemant Adarkar, Resident Senior Fellow, Artha Global on Friday, March 3, from 3:00 PM-4:00 PM IST. This was an in person, on-the-record event hosted at the Artha Global office in Khar West, Mumbai.

With the proliferation of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning in policy and other sectors, Hemant Adarkar discussed the origins and current state of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning and its implications for enacting and implementing policy. AI has begun to play a role in shaping and implementing public policy, from assisting in the delivery of public goods, to facilitating payments, detecting & preventing the spread of diseases. Through live demonstrations and stimulating conversation, the team learnt about key concepts in these fields, and discussed the pitfalls & biases associated with AI, and how to overcome them.

About the speaker

Hemant AdarkarHemant Adarkar is the Technology Advisor and a Resident Senior Fellow at Artha Global. He also serves as a Public Interest Director of NCDEX. Prior to this, he was a Resident Senior Fellow at the IDFC Institute in Mumbai. He has also been appointed as the Technology Advisor to the National Bank for Financing Infrastructure and Development (NaBFID), the newly founded development financial institution.
Hemant is the chief architect for the core banking solution for the largest co-operative bank in Asia, and was a member of the system and technology committees of NSDL and NERL. He conceptualised a digital-only bank within the Bank of Baroda group, headed a team to link more than a dozen ERP systems for a large European food conglomerate, and created the enterprise architecture blueprint for the largest humanitarian organisation in the world. He has a PhD in nuclear physics from TIFR, India.
