Context
As Mumbai Metro Line-3 nears operational status, with other lines under construction, there is a critical need to assess its impact on the city’s commuting landscape.
Methodology
Conducted two surveys of 1,207 residents and 1,482 respondents to gather insights from potential users to understand the extent to which people will substitute the Metro Line-3 for current modes of commute and the reasons, along with factors that would encourage or discourage the use of Metro Line-3.
Outcomes
Key findings from the surveys are as follows:
User readiness: Approximately 60% of respondents from various demographic backgrounds, except those over 60, are likely to switch to Metro Line-3, with the highest potential shift among auto and taxi users.
Commute efficiency: Reduction in commute time is the primary incentive for using Metro Line-3, cited by nearly 60% of participants across all genders.
Connectivity issues: Enhancing first and last-mile connectivity emerged as essential for maximising the use of Metro Line-3, as poor linkages currently pose a significant barrier to its adoption.
