Artha Global and Nehru Centre hosted the launch of The Ideas That Shaped Modern India and Its Economy by Dr Niranjan Rajadhyaksha, Executive Director – Research & Strategy at Artha Global, at Nehru Centre, Mumbai. Niranjan presented the book and was then in conversation with Rama Bijapurkar, Business Market Strategist; Sajjid Chinoy, Head of Asia Economics and Chief India Economist, J.P. Morgan; and Latha Venkatesh, Executive Editor, CNBC-TV18. The evening closed with a Q&A with the audience.
The book traces nearly 150 years of Indian economic thought, from the colonial period through independence, nation-building and liberalisation. It follows the thinkers, reformers, policymakers and dissenters who shaped these debates and takes up some enduring questions: how a nation creates wealth, where the line between the state and the market should fall, and how India should engage with the global economy.
