Dr. Indu Bhushan

Senior Advisor

Indu Bhushan is a Senior Advisor at Artha Global. He is a development economist and public-policy leader with over three decades of experience across government, global health, and international development. He is known for steering large-scale reforms and turning research into policy impact. A former Indian Administrative Service officer, he served as the founding CEO of India’s National Health Authority, leading the rollout of Ayushman Bharat–Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana and the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission. Previously, as Director General at the Asian Development Bank, he managed portfolios over USD 25 billion and drove major institutional reforms.

Indu has worked in 28+ countries across Asia, the Pacific, and Africa, with prior roles at the World Bank and in Indian public administration. He is Senior Associate and Ambassador for the Johns Hopkins Gupta-Klinsky India Institute, a Commissioner with The Lancet Citizens’ Commission, and chairs the India Working Group on Lead Poisoning. He also serves on the boards of Godrej Properties, Colgate-Palmolive India, Diageo India, ITC Hotels, and Apollo Healthco.

He holds a PhD and Master of Health Sciences from Johns Hopkins University, is a CFA charterholder and IIT BHU gold medallist, and has received honours including the Johns Hopkins Global Achievement Award and the IIT BHU Distinguished Alumnus Award.
