Sanjiv Nandan Sahai

Distinguished Fellow

Mr. Sanjiv Nandan Sahai is a Distinguished Fellow at Artha Global.

He is a former Secretary to the Government of India and a retired IAS officer, he brings over four decades of experience in public policy, infrastructure reform, and governance. He has served at the highest levels of government, including the Prime Minister’s Office, and as Secretary, Ministry of Power, where he led key reforms focused on power sector sustainability, grid rationalisation, renewable energy expansion, and DISCOM reforms.

Mr. Sahai has also headed major public institutions and urban transport systems, and has worked in the private sector on infrastructure financing and project execution. He is a recipient of the Governor’s Gold Medal for outstanding leadership and administrative service in Arunachal Pradesh.

Post-retirement, he founded the Power Foundation of India, a policy think tank supporting India’s energy transition, and served as Director of the Prime Ministers Museum and Library. An alumnus of Princeton University and a World Bank McNamara Fellow, he writes and speaks widely on energy policy, infrastructure, sustainable development, and governance.
