Since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, significant scientific progress has been made with the development of innovative and point-of-care testing, safe and effective vaccines, and enhanced clinical management. Yet, many regions are recording their highest ever number of cases and deaths. This brief calls for the adoption of an evidence-based strategy to ensure timely and appropriate use of available control tools and policy measures. It goes without saying that the strategy must have effective communications as a key driver.
