The Centre for Public Health works on public health issues, with a strong focus on healthy cities and health data ecosystems.
We partner with cities and states to build the scientific research, advocacy and government capacity for a robust public health system. Our focus on public health stems from our recent work assisting the Indian federal government and 12 state governments respond to the Covid-19 pandemic. At the onset of the pandemic, we rapidly assembled an interdisciplinary group of experts to help the government respond to an unprecedented crisis, ranging from epidemiologists and supply chain experts to senior police officers and communications gurus.
This experience helped us recognize that most policy attention has been focused on providing healthcare, with little emphasis on disease prevention and control. The Centre for Public Health aims to identify and work on issues that can help develop a robust public health system in India, provide data for urgent decision-making, and bolster state capacity. This includes assessing existing public and private health data and facilities, strengthening responsiveness of health services, and improving equitable access to health services.
